A number of years back, the English entomologist Steve Lindsay landed at the South American airport and was immediately struck by all the shaggy creatures strolling through the baggage claim area.

"I was amazed, seeing dogs-bloodhounds, searching for fruits and vegetables," - says Lindsay, who explores malaria at the Institute of Durham in England.
